300 Savage Brass
Few people know that the .300 Savage was the starting point for the US military's 7.62x51 round and eventually evolved into the .308 Winchester. It's an old but very powerful cartridge. And the vintage rifles I used to develop the handload are the Remington model 722 bolt action system and the Savage model 99R lever action.
The .300 Savage was introduced in 1920 for the popular Savage model 99 lever rifle. It was around this time that the bolt-action rifle (especially the .3006 Springfield 1903) became popular with hunters, and Savage sought to improve the performance of the Model 99 over the original .303 Savage Chamber.
