The Hornady SST (Super Shock Tip) is engineered to generate massive shock on impact while expanding fast and consistently, even at high speeds.
It's a perfect bullet for whitetails, as well as most North American game animals from antelope to moose and similar-sized African plains game, because it's flat firing and incredibly accurate. The SST creates a massive wound channel that can be devastating.
When the hard polymer tip collides with the lead core, it acts as a wedge, causing rapid but controlled expansion.
The tapered point, higher bearing surface, and much more aerodynamic profile, combined with a boattail base, make the SST more efficient with less drag and more stability, thanks to Hornady's pioneering secant ogive design.
