The 338 Winchester Magnum cartridge was intended for these projectiles. A thick double-tapered jacket and robust core ensure controlled but reliable expansion and deep penetration. For both rounds, the Sierra Spitzer Boat Tail design ensures a flat trajectory, low wind sensitivity, and accurate accuracy at long range. The 215 grain #2610 bullet was created for the 338 Winchester Magnum as a higher-velocity, lighter bullet, while it is also considered light for the 340 Weatherby Magnum.
This bullet is appropriate for medium to elk-sized animals. The #2610 bullet can endure 338 Winchester Magnum bullet speeds with ease. For reliable expansion, shooters using the 338-06 or similar cartridges must keep loads with the 215 grain #2610 bullet near maximum velocity. Despite the high recoil of maximum loads, hunting rifles have demonstrated exceptional accuracy with this bullet.
