The Berger VLD Hunting Bullet is one of the industry's flattest shooting hunting bullets. VLD Hunting Bullets are identical to VLD Target Bullets in design, with the exception of a thinner J4 Precision jacket for quick expansion during game usage. VLD Hunting Bullets are intended to pierce 2-3" before expanding and creating a huge wound cavity up to 15". Most creatures descend immediately as a result of the hydrostatic shock.
VLD Hunting Bullets include a secant ogive design, which reduces drag as the bullet travels to the target. Because of this lower drag, the VLD shoots flatter, has less wind drift, and has a higher maintained velocity than any others. For single-shot applications, a favorite load technique for the VLDs is touching the rifling, though some rifles may prefer as much as.150" from the rifling. Berger VLD Hunting Bullets are extremely popular for long range hunting applications. Built with highly consistent J4 Precision Bullet jackets, which are most favored by custom bullet makers.
